Government. It is noodless for me to reiterate statement of the
hardship
inflicted on the population of the Two Kwang and of
tlis Colony by the depreciation of the small coinage which is
caused hy over-igsue, and of the injury to the trade of the two
countries due to the same cause; but it may be well to remind
the Chinese Government that the steps which this Government has.
taken and is still taking for re-habilitating its subsidiary
coinage will be neutralised unless the Authorities of the Two
Kwang Provinces co-operate in the direction now desired.

In this connection I have the honour to
acknowledge with thanks Your Exoellency's despatch of January
8th., enclosing copy o a despatch to Sir Edward Grey on the
subject of currency reform in China.
